How to Become an Independent Language Learner (ILL) with the European Language Learning System
Hello New Student:
Welcome to the AOK Basic Skills Project and this ILL workshop.
- If you have found this workshop on the internet but missed the overview presentation and must proceed on your own, please read the syllabus (study plan) included on the first page and the introductions to the other files, which are also included on the first page.
- Then read the PowerPoint presentation, where everything is explained, and check out the linked in websites to the PowerPoint.
- Then determine your CEFR level (English ability) by answering the self-evaluation questions (see the link for this in the Power Point), find several good websites and begin your studies!
- When you are studying English, it’s important to know some basic grammar. For example, in CEFR Level A2, you should know the grammar listed near the end of Unit 4 in the Adult Website Guide. To obtain a lesson plan that teaches this grammar for reading, listening, speaking, and writing, ask Chat GPT or Google Gemini, listing the CEFR sub skill and your speaking level. The subskills for CEFR Level A2 can be found at the end of Unit 4. You can connect to the CEFR website in the PowerPoint presentation.
- To find some good websites for studying English, you can look in the Adult Website Guide on the list of files for this workshop), or look on YouTube.
- Best of luck to being on your way to becoming an “independent language learner”.
Regards, John Kirk
Director, AOK Basic Skills.
