Re: Workshop: Studying English with the Internet, the CEFR
and the Biography Section of the ELP: for level A2-B1 Students
Dear English Institute Director:
I am an over 65 semi-retired English teacher and am the presenter of the AOK Workshops. Recently, I have been working on an English learning project that I would like to share without cost. It would take place in 45-60 minutes.
Today when new students enter their foreign language programs, many universities provide a list of free websites for complementary English studies and the support of their course texts. Many also teach the ‘Biography Section’ of the ELP, with which they can determine how they best study individually. This learning system is as good for the classroom as it is for “Independent Language Learning (ILL)”.
In the workshop, I will give an overview of what is available on the Internet to learn the CEFR, an internationally popular language curriculum. It will introduce strategies to help find this information and will distribute a file with more than 200 annotated and free sites. We will also discuss smartphone applications for learning English and briefly explain how to use the ‘biography section’ of the ELP with the help of the classroom handouts. This way, students can prepare better for an international exam.
The long-term purpose of the workshop
The long-term purpose is to encourage an organization such as UNESCO to provide an ILL website that provides ELP training and list the websites to facilitate it. To do this, I will ask the workshop host if the participants will take part in the project by completing voluntary and anonymous workshop evaluations. If not, I would still appreciate the opportunity to present the workshop to their group.
Because the language study materials that I use are written for non-commercial purposes, I do not charge for the presentation.
